The Faculty of Business Administration consists
of 11 departments and 1 institute, which together employ 12
professors, 24 associate professors, 59 lecturers, and 73 young
academic teachers. Some of the staff have considerable experience of
working for international organisations, foreign universities, and
the Polish government. Lots of staff members collaborate closely
with economists at various institutions in Europe and in the United
States. Students of the Faculty are offered three main degree
courses which lead to the award of the MSc degree. They are:
Management and Marketing, with four areas of specialisation:
- Business Economics
- Organisation and Management
- Marketing
- Regional Economy
Finance and Banking, with two areas of specialisation:
- Banking, public finance and corporate finance
- Accounting
Computer Science and Econometrics, with two areas of
specialisation:
- Econometrics and Statistics
- Computer Science
- Actuarial Statistics
At present we have more than two thousand
full-time students and nearly two thousand part-time (extra-mural)
students. The latter ones attend classes at weekends. Full-time
students study for 9 semesters for Master Degree. Part-time studies
are split into two stages: a first one, professionally oriented,
which lasts for six semesters, and the second one at which more
universal knowledge is provided for four semesters. Students who
successfully finish the first stage receive Bachelor Degree, and
those who finish the upper stage get Master Degree. Over years,
postgraduate studies have been increasingly popular; they include
Marketing, Accounting and Finances, Management in Health Care
Centres, Ecological Auditing, "School of Management" and a Banking
Study Centre, run together with Gdańsk Academy of Banking and the
Academy of Banking in Frankfurt. The Faculty enjoys the right to
grant doctorates and assistant professorships. All students have
convenient access to the library. The main University Library is
located in Sopot, only 100 m. away from the building of the Faculty
of Business Administration. The library has an extensive range of
books and periodicals. The Faculty is housed in a well-equipped
building which has a large lecture theatre that can accommodate 160
students, 22 other teaching rooms of various sizes, 4 computer
laboratories with 10-15 PC's in each. There is an efficient computer
network which links the terminals in the Faculty with the library
and with the Faculty's mainframe computer. Students have access to
Internet and useful software in computer labs. In the close vicinity
of the Faculty building there are located various sport facilities
for students and staff, including a sport hall and two tennis courts.
The main sport centre of the University, which comprises modern
halls and sport grounds, is situated in Gdańsk, near the Rector's
Office.
