Getting to Sopot is relatively easy is it is well connected
by various types of communications. There is an airport in Gdansk about 20 Km from
Sopot. It has connections to many airports in Europe. The small place is called
Gdansk Rembiechowo and it a little far away from the center of Gdansk, but you
simply ask for a connection to Gdansk.
For most the best choice would be flying to Warsaw (Warszawa)
and taking plane to Gdansk. When you book with polish airline LOT to Warsaw from
your country the price from Warsaw to Gdansk will be usually 50% off. There is
also train from Warsaw to Sopot but it takes about 4 hours, one hour to get the
station and it really does not come with real savings; you will be simply
traveling for the rest of the day.
From Gdansk you can take bus to the station called Gdansk Wrzeszcz and from there a fast local train to Sopot. You can buy a ticket from
bus driver and you have to punch it in small puncher, which you will find
somewhere in the bus. The same with train ticket, you buy it at the station and
on your way to the train you will find big yellow box on the wall, which is used
to stamp the ticket. Remember to do this because there are very frequent
controls on the bus and the train and the encounter with controller might be
sometimes very unpleasant.
As you noticed reading about Sopot it is located between
Gdansk and Gdynia, those cities have big ports. There is ferry service to many
ports in the Baltic particularly to Sweden, Norway and some ports in Estonia and
Lithuania.
Sopot, Gdansk and Gdynia have very good bus communication
there is also street car and trolley bus and those cities are connected by fast
local train. The other choice might be taking taxi to Sopot. |
