In 2001 Sopot celebrated 100 years as a Town. On
8 October 1901 Sopot was promoted to town status by Prussian
government in Berlin, before returning in 1945 to Poland when
Germany lost the war. Sopot is not an industry town and there is not
too much money to spare but nevertheless the city decided to invest
money to celebrate the event. The sports arena named after Sopot’s
founder Jean Haffner is one of the investments. This new and modern
building is a place of many events and games, taking place all the
season.
Of course there is a local baseball team called
Prokom – Trefl Sopot. The team was established in 1995 due to afford
Kazimierz Wierzbicki, the owner of firm Trefl. After short time the
team establishes very fast its presence as I league in the season
1997 / 1998.
